A bit ago I read somebody write about an air fryer. I love French fries, but my metabolic rate disagrees with my consumption levels anymore. So, after a bit of research I picked up a starfish Phillips air fryer. I have a few russets to try, first I’ll confirm their moisture level via the method described here:
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
I’m not completely sure the russets I have are Burbank, so I’ve ordered about thirty pounds from Idaho along with more than a few seed potatoes. Once this is done, it’ll be mandolin for the waffle cut, avocado oil for the fry oil delivered via Evo sprayer bottles. Finally, the fry!
Next I’ll try salmon for fish and chips, oysters for po boys, portobello and avocado fries, and finally Buffalo wings! I’m truly stoked about this as I’ve heard great things from friends whose used the air fryer.

Air Fryers are good & do the job, but are way slower & will never replicate a deep frye r.

W hen cooked properly and seasoned well, shoestrings can be quite good. While I prefer a nice steak fry, its an entirely different food really.

I love my air fryer. Although I’m guilty of mainly using frozen fries but even those are way better than in an oven. I’ve had good luck cooking salmon in mine as well.

I like a good shoestring fry but the problem is that most are bad

Yes, as with any style of fry.
I tend to like a crinkle cut because you can say crinkle cut when ordering but who the fuck am I kidding my gelatinous ass consumes all fries.

Boo, opinions!

I’ve heard the opposite, but I have no experience yet. I have the feeling this will be very dependent on all factors, prep, technique and quality of ingredients.

i have an air fryer and its the best thing ever. It doesn’ t 100% replicate deep frying. I guess you just lose something when you don’ t saturate the food with oil. However I love the thing. I’ve done fish in the fryer and it was still very good. Also, the salmon has no place in fish & chips and it needs to gtfo and on a smoking board or something. Cod or H addock ar e the only acceptable fish for fish and chips.

If the food gets saturated with oil, you’ve done it wrong. The oil is supposed to be hot enough to cook the foo d without seeping in that much. When fried food is soaked through, it usually means the cooking temperature was too low.

Halibut is also good. Salmon rocks as does cod, po llock, and haddock.

Crinkle cut is definitely my preferred “smaller” fry. Although a sweet potato fry will beat all most of the time for me. Especially with a nice dipping sauce that isnt ketchup or bbq. Although I will admit I quite like ketchup on shoe strings and prefer it from time to time.
